Best Vacuums of 2022 | Best Cordless Vacuums | Best Robot Vacuums | Best Mops Carpet Shampooers

Updated: Aug 29

Are you in the market for a vacuum? There are so many on the market that it can be hard to narrow it down.

You’re in the right place. I own A LOT of vacuums, and today I’m going to share with you my favorite ones.

To make shopping for a vacuum easier, I broke this list down by category:

Best Upright Vacuums

Best Robot Vacuums

Best Carpet Shampooers and Mops

Best Cordless Vacuums

Best Vacuums for Pets

I’ve also noted key features about each that I like. If they’re good for pets, have great suction, or are unique in some way, I let you know.

If you’d like see the vacuums in real life, click the time stamp links below. They’ll take you to my Amazon Live, where I show and demonstrate each of these vacuums.

Best Robot Vacuums

iRobot Roomba 694

(Watch It Live At 2:38) <--

The first robot vacuum I’d recommend is the iRobot Roomba 694. This was voted Best Affordable Robot Vacuum and is one of my favorite robot vacuums. You really can’t go wrong with Roomba. Most Roombas have a double brushroll on the bottom, which really does make a big difference in picking up both large and small particles. They also have a large cleaning channel underneath when you flip it over. If you’re brand new to robot vacuums, those are two things to consider when it comes to functionality: Does it have brushes and how large is the cleaning channel? I would recommend the iRobot Roomba 694 for all surfaces, even carpet and area rugs. It also can be connected to Wif or Alexa to run it on a schedule.

Bissell Spinwave

Mops and Vacuums

Another robot vacuum I like is the Bissell Spinwave, which is both a robot vacuum and a robot mop! It’s great if you’ve got a house full of tile, hardwood or vinyl. I use this downstairs in our kitchen and dining room daily! I love it.

The Spinwave comes with hard floor cleaner formula. You’ll want to add this and some water into the water cartridge in order to use it as a mop. It also comes with extra brushes and mop heads, so you always have a clean set on hand while the others are in the laundry. It also comes with a mat, so that when your robot comes back to its charger, it can rest on there and not damage your floors in case it’s still wet. It also has a drop sensor so it won’t fall down any stairs. I find the Spinwave to be both an excellent robot vacuum as well as a mop.

The iRobot Roomba i7+

(Watch It Live at 7:15) <--

Great for Pets

High Suction

Empties Itself

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is a phenomenal high-end robot vacuum. This is what you’re probably thinking of when you think “robot vacuum.” The Roomba i7+ cleans the floors, empties itself, and does everything - without you lifting a finger!

The i7+ has the double brushroll that’s unique to Roomba, which makes a big difference. It also has 10X the suction compared to less-expensive Roombas. If you have pets, you’re probably also going to like the double brushes because pet hair does not get stuck. The rolls also adjust up and down, so that they’re in constant contact with the floor below them.

Allergy sufferers will also appreciate the HEPA filter that captures 99% of pet dander and allergens.

One thing you’ll immediately notice about the i7 is that it cleans in neat and tidy rows, unlike less-expensive robots that do zig zags across the room. The i7 also knows to go back to its charger to reboot, but once it does that, it goes right back to where it left off to keep cleaning. That’s a big difference over robots that 1) don’t go back to their charger on their own and 2) don’t pick up where they left off. Like I said, this one basically runs itself.

It also maps out your house, so it knows where your furniture, walls, and dirtier rooms tend to be. If the i7 detects heavier dirt on an area, it will use higher suction on that area.

With the mapping feature, you can name the rooms in the app. Then once it maps your house, you can use Alexa to say things like, “Alexa, run the vacuum under the dining room table.” The Roomba i7+ will know exactly where you mean!

The base’s tower holds up to 60 days of dirt, so when it returns to that charger station, it actually empties itself. It’s really pretty amazing (you can watch it live here). That’s what I mean about it being a completely hands-free vacuum. I would also really compare this vacuum to the strength of an upright vacuum, which I’ve never come across another robot that I would say is as strong as an upright. The only downside to the i7+ may be its noise level. It is a little loud.

Best Upright Vacuums

The Bissell Multiclean Allergen Lift Off

(Watch Live at 14:05) <--

Good for Pets

High Suction

The Bissell Multiclean Allergen Lift-Off is my favorite affordable upright vacuum. The Lift-Off has a HEPA filter inside of it, which is a must if you suffer from allergies. The “Lift-off” capability means that with the press of a button, you can lift the canister off of the base. This allows you to vacuum hard to reach areas, like baseboards, corners, stairs, ceilings, cars, couches, as if you had a canister vacuum. It’s a two-in-one design.

As an upright vacuum, you get the high power suction for carpet. But in Lift Off mode, you get more portability, with still high suction. I also find the cord to be rather long. For instance, I was able to leave the vacuum at the bottom of my staircase and take the canister up without unplugging it.

I also like that there’s a light on the front of the vacuum; it helps you to see so much more! The Bissell Lift-Off also has a nice swivel design, which makes it easier to push. By pressing the wand release button, you can remove the arm, add an attachment, and easily do things like your stairs. It’s so nice to have that Lift-Off capability. You don’t have to be limited by a short hose.

The Shark Navigator Lift-Away

(Watch It Live at 16:55) <--

High Suction

The Shark Navigator Lift Away is one of the best selling vacuums of the past 10 years. People love it, and so do I. It’s pretty similar to the Lift-Off by Bissell. It has the HEPA filter, the swivel feature, and it’s a little less heavy.

The biggest difference between the Lift-Off and the Lift-Away is that the Shark isn’t specifically designed for pets, so the attachments aren’t as suitable for pet hair. If that’s not a concern for you, you may prefer this one.

The Shark Navigator Lift Away is easy to assemble. I use this on both bare floors and on carpet. It has a switch to engage the brushroll for carpet, and you can also turn that off when using on hard surfaces (so you don’t scratch anything). It glides easily and has great suction power. To empty it, you lift the levers on the sides of the dirt canister. I was able to empty it with one hand.

One of the biggest features is the lift-away capability. This allows you to take the canister with you to vacuum things like upholstery, baseboards, corners, windowsills, or even your car. The cord is rather long on this too. If I had to compare this to the Bissell, I would say they’re pretty even. I would just recommend Bissell Lift Off for any pet hair needs.

Bissell Multiclean Allergen Pet

(Watch It Live at 34:20) <--

The Bissell Multiclean Allergen Pet is a little different from the Lift Off because this one will not lift off of the base, but it’s still great. The Multiclean Allergen Pet has a HEPA filter and high power suction, so it’s great for pet owners. You can’t beat the ease with which you can empty the dirt canister. Bissell’s design is always so intuitive. It has the Pet Eraser, which is an attachment you can use on your couch cushions. Pet hair doesn’t tangle around it, either! The Allergen Pet also has a crevice nozzle, so you can attach that for smaller slots or surfaces. It also comes with a dust brush attachment, so you can use that on surfaces you don’t want to risk scratching. This is a great affordable, high-suction vacuum for pet owners.

Dyson Ball Multi Floor Origin

(Watch It Live at 38:07) <--

Great Suction

HEPA Filter

Tricky to add attachments

The Dyson Ball Multi-Floor Origin is a really nice upright vacuum with unbeatable suction power.

The brushroll rests close to the floor so you’re getting a really deep clean of your carpets and rugs. I prefer uprights because of their suction power. You also don’t have to worry about battery lift or runtime, since you’ll be connected by the cord, which is super long on this Dyson.

Allergy sufferers will enjoy that the Dyson Ball has a washable HEPA filter inside of it. It’s bagless and sealed up, so you’re not pushing out dirty air into your room. The Dyson Ball Multi-Floor Origin comes with a couple attachments: a dust brush and a crevice nozzle. It glides really nicely over the carpet, too.

It’s not the most lightweight, but it can be hard to find lightweight upright vacuums. This leaves the lines in your carpet. You know you’re getting great suction. It rides really low to the ground, which can be a plus and a negative. If you’re trying to vacuum up something bigger, like cheerios, you may need to rely on the wand to get it.

Best Mops & Carpet Shampooers

The Bissell Spinwave

(Watch It Live at 11:50)

Fun to Use

If you’re looking for an alternative to the mop and the bucket, the Bissell Spinwave is a fantastic and fun-to-use cordless mop. This lightweight but heavy duty mop has two large rotating scrubber pads that do a lot of the work for you.

The Bissell Spinwave does have a bit of strength to it. You need to have a handle on it because it’s almost like a floor buffer. Hold her steady!

To use it, you send the solution out onto the floor with the press of a button, and then run the rotating pads over top of it. If you’re used to scrubbing hard on your floors, this does a lot of that motion for you. I also like that you’re only ever adding clean solution to your floors, unlike a mop and bucket, where you’re adding dirty water to your floors with each application.

Bissell Powerfresh

(Watch It Live at 22:05)

Steam Mop

Easy to Use

The Bissell Powerfresh is both a vacuum as well as a steam mop. I use mine in our bathrooms, where we have tile floors. The Powerfresh can be used on tile, marble, and even hardwood, according to Bissell.

I think the Powerfresh makes sense if you need to sanitize your surfaces, if you have grout lines, or if you have heavy traffic that mopping isn’t getting clean enough.

To use it, you fill the back reservoir with water. Plug the vacuum in, and let it heat up. With a press of a button on the handle, you can easily switch between vacuum and mop mode. I find this convenient instead of having to use a vacuum in my kitchen and then pull out a steam mop. With the Powerfresh, if I’m steam mopping the floors and come across a scrap of food, I can just press a button to engage the vacuum component.

I’ve also used the Powerfresh when tackling really aggressive substances stuck onto my floor. We had a tree dropping sap once, and my kids and dog dragged the sap into the house. It stuck onto our tile, and I couldn’t get it off with anything. I broke out my Powerfresh mop, rested it on the sap on the tile, and let the heat do the work for me. Highly recommend it!

The Bissell Crosswave

(Watch It Live at 23:05)

Light Carpet Cleaner

The Bissell Crosswave is similar to the Powerfresh, in that it’s a vacuum as well as a mop. While it doesn’t have a steam element to it, you can run it over your carpets or area rugs for a light shampooing! I love it for a nice little refresh. Check out it’s multisurface brush roll that works well on all surfaces.

While it’s not going to give you as deep of a clean as a carpet shampooer, it does make your soft surfaces smell amazing. It also lifts some light staining too. I’d recommend using this on your area rugs between shampooing. The Crosswave is a very popular vacuum for Bissell.

Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet

(Watch It Live at 24:23)

Good for Pets

High Suction

Best Carpet Shampooer I Own

Speaking of shampooing carpets, my favorite carpet shampooer is the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet. This promises to clean better than the store-rented carpet shampooers. I have two or three other carpet shampooers that do a good job, but this one REALLY does a great job. If you’ve got pet stains, odors, or even if you don’t think you have odors, you probably do! This gets my white carpet REALLY white again. It has a heating element to it, which I think makes the difference between this and my other carpet shampooers.

The way it works is that you fill up the water reservoir and add a bit of the solution to it. The bottom tank is where your clean water is, and the dirty water collects in the other reservoir, so you’re only ever using clean water on your carpet.

Bissell ProHeat 2X has totally extended the life of my carpet and rugs. When it says that it cleans better than store rented carpet shampooers, I believe it. This made me feel like I had my carpet professionally cleaned.

Best Cordless Vacuums

Eureka RapidClean Pro Lightweight Cordless

(Watch It Live at 27:39)

Good for Small Areas

The Eureka RapidClean Pro Lightweight Cordless is a great, affordable cordless vacuum. If you’re looking for a cordless vacuum for an apartment or smaller space, this is a great affordable option. I was actually surprised by the suction power of the Eureka RapidClean Pro!

My issue with cordless is that the suction isn’t usually as good as uprights, but I must say, this one surprised me. Especially at its price point! It’s SUPER lightweight, and also has great suction power. You can see how much dirt it caught in my house!

Tineco A11 Hero

(Watch It Live at 28:50)

Tons of Attachments

High Suction

Tineco A11 Hero - Have you heard of this brand? I am in love with this cordless vacuum! This is a great middle of the road price point, but it’s really on par with higher end cordless vacuums. It has really great suction power!

When you’re shopping for cordless vacuums, you want to consider their how long their charge will last (usually called “runtime.”). The Tineco has a 40 minute runtime, which is pretty standard, especially at this price point.

The Tineco A11 Hero is great for hard floors AND carpet. It’s very lightweight, so if you prefer something lighter than an upright, this may be a good alternative that doesn’t sacrifice suction.

Allergy sufferers will appreciate the HEPA filter. It will trap all of those pet allergens from your floors and not push them back out into the room. It also comes with a SLEW of attachments to add on. Don’t sleep on it! This is a great brand.

One additional feature I appreciate is the “Hold” button. Press it once, and your vacuum will stay on. Other cordless vacuums rely on you holding back the trigger the entire time.

Dyson Cyclone V10 Animal

(Watch It Live at 31:36)

The Dyson Cyclone V10 Animal is top of the line, and sometimes you wonder, is the most expensive always the best? This one truly is the best cordless I’ve tried. It’s very lightweight, but I will say that it doesn’t come with as many attachments as the Tineco does. It does have 60 minutes of runtime, though, compared to Tineco’s 40.

Allergy sufferers will like that it also has a sealed system, so it’s not kicking out allergens or dust particles into your room. The Dyson Cyclone V10 comes with a mounting station, so you can hang it to charge. It has a low, medium, and a boost mode to increase or decrease your suction. If you run it on boost, that will drain your battery life faster, though.

You just can’t beat the suction power of a Dyson.

Best for Pet Owners

Bissell Pet Stain Eraser

(Watch it live at 40:40)

Good for Pets

Spot Treater

The Bissell Pet Stain Eraser is a nice vacuum if you’ve got pet accidents or spills that you need to clean up. It’s very portable in design and very nice and compact. If you don’t have a ton of room for a shampooer, this may be better for you. Mine came with two bottles of formula that you pour into the cartridge. If you’ve come across an accident, you can go ahead and spray the surface with the formula by pulling back the trigger. It has Oxi-clean in it, so it does lift the stain quite a bit for you, but it does have a scrubbing brush to work into the stain if needed. Then you suck up the formula and mess with the vacuum.

Bissell Little Green Multi-Purpose Portable Machine (Watch It Live at 42:37)

Good for Pets

Upholstery & Carpet Shampooer

The Bissell Little Green Multi-Purpose Portable Machine is an upholstery and spot treater for carpets and rugs. We have an upholstered couch that’s not slipcovered, and this is what I use on my couch to clean it, but you can also use this on rugs or carpet, if you’ve got just small stains to treat.

To use it, you fill the reservoir with a bit of formula, and then you add some hot water from your sink. When I come across a stain, I spray the solution onto it and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, I go over the stain, back and forth, to suck up the mess.

This also has a Hydro Nozzle that caps off the sprayer hose. It flushes out the hose, so you don’t have to worry about the hose or vacuum filling with bacteria. That’s a nice feature I haven’t seen on my other shampooers.

Check out the dirty water from shampooing my couch on the Amazon Live. Yowza!

For vacuums for pet hair owners, I like the The Bissell Multiclean Allergen Lift Off (Watch Live at 14:05) and the iRobot Roomba i7+(Watch It Live at 7:15) to stay on top of pet hair without you having to do anything.
